Ex-governors to lead ADC presidential primary committees

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has named former Cross River State Governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, and former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, to head key committees ahead of its presidential primaries.

Under the party’s arrangement, Imoke will serve as chairman of the Presidential Screening Committee, while Ahmed will lead the Presidential Election Committee.

The appointments were announced on Monday in a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary (NPS), Bolaji Abdullahi, who said preparations were being stepped up ahead of the ADC presidential primaries.

According to the statement, the Presidential Screening Committee includes Hon. C.I.D. Maduabum as secretary, as well as Alhaji Lawal Batagarawa, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, Hon. Nnena Elendu-Ukeje, Prof. David Salifu, and retired Col. Abubakar Ciroma.

The Presidential Election Committee will have Prof. Yisa Gana as Secretary, while members include Maj.-Gen. Adamu Jalingo (rtd), Dr. Auwalu Anwar, Chief Emenike Ikechi, Dr. Macaulay Iyare, Tajudeen Bakare, Elder Ubolo Itodo Okpanachi, Zainab Buba Galadima, Uzoamaka Onyeama, and Maj.-Gen. Inuwa Idris (rtd).

The party also set up a Presidential Appeals Committee, chaired by Dr. Suleiman Usman (SAN), with Ken Imasuagbon as Secretary and Dare Okerade as a member.

For the governorship primaries, the ADC has constituted two separate screening panels.

The first panel will be led by S.E. Aruwa (SAN), with Femi Olawuyi serving as Secretary. Other members are Lauretta Onochie, Dr. Vivian Ugochukwu, Akilu Indabawa, Ibrahim Wali, and Prof. Rabiu Bello.

The second governorship screening panel will be chaired by Justina Abanida, with Hon. Chille Igbawua as Secretary. Its members include former Imo State Deputy Governor Gerrard Irona, Sen. Yisa Braimoh, Hassan Ibrahim, Joseph Enemali, and retired Navy Capt. Aliyu Ngolmo.

The ADC has also set up two governorship appeal committees.

The first appeal committee is chaired by P. I. Oyewole, with Taiye Ibrahim as Secretary and Adah Usman as a member.

The second appeal committee will be headed by M.E. Sheriff, Esq., with Realwan Okpanachi serving as Secretary and Hassan Yakubu as a member.

The committees were established to ensure transparency, fairness, credibility, and internal democracy in the conduct of the party’s primaries, the NPS said.
