Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, on Thursday visited with his major rival in the party’s presidential primary, Rotimi Amaechi, former Rivers State governor.

Atiku Abubakar won the recently concluded ADC primary, beating Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen to clinch the party’s presidential ticket.

Amaechi had already rejected the outcome of the exercise before the official announcement of results, alleging that the process was tainted by irregularities.

In his acceptance speech, Atiku urged Amaechi and other dissatisfied party members to put aside their grievances and unite ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The details of Thursday’s meeting remained unclear at press time, as neither Atiku nor Amaechi had addressed journalists regarding the outcome of the discussions.

Sources within the party, however, indicated that the meeting may be part of ongoing efforts by Atiku to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and secure Amaechi’s support ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.
