Nyesom Wike has dismissed reports of a purported alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, describing the claim as “political 419.”
On Wednesday, the Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party said that it had entered into an alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Following the announcement, Seyi Makinde declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, stating that the PDP-APM partnership would allow the former ruling party to field candidates for all elective positions during the polls.
However, speaking on Thursday while inspecting road projects in Abuja, Nyesom Wike dismissed the claims, accusing Makinde of misleading Nigerians about the existence of any alliance between the two parties.
“That’s the kind of 419 we are talking about,” Wike said, using the popular Nigerian term associated with fraud and deception.
The FCT minister insisted that no alliance exists between the PDP and the APM or any other political party. According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission is fully aware that no such arrangement has been registered or recognised.
Wike further argued that the ongoing screening of aspirants by the Abdulrahman Mohammed faction of the PDP clearly shows that the party is operating independently and not in partnership with any political group.

He maintained that the PDP already has its own presidential candidate and challenged observers to wait for the list that would eventually be submitted to INEC to confirm that there is no formal PDP-APM alliance.
According to Wike, what is actually happening is that Makinde is aligning himself with the APM in a bid to pursue his presidential ambition, which he described as “dead on arrival.”
The minister also noted that Bala Mohammed never mentioned any PDP-APM alliance when he joined the political movement.
