Authorities in Tennessee say they have charged a teacher for raping a youngster at her home in 2021 and have also accused her of having sex with “multiple juveniles.” When she was detained on Friday, Alissa McCommon, 38, of Covington, was the subject of an investigation into charges of improper contact with minors, according to the Covington Police Department.
The Tennessee Department of Children’s Services got in touch with police last month to discuss suspicions of sexual misbehavior involving a teacher and a former pupil. According to CBS affiliate WREG TV, McCommon, a teacher at Challenger Academy, was placed on indefinite leave without pay on August 24 after a parent reported suspicions of abuse.
After that, “multiple juvenile victims” claimed they reconnected with their former teacher, played video games with her, and engaged in social media activity with her, according to the police.
According to authorities, as a result, McCommon “allegedly sent inappropriate photographs and requested sexual relations with the victims.”
Covington Police Chief Donna Turner told WREG that McCommon is accused of having a sexual interaction with a youngster 12 years old or younger at her house in 2021.
Turner stated in a statement “Detectives from the Covington Police Department are still looking into this awful exploitation and abuse of these young guys. “We anticipate that the inquiry will also be developed to establish the responsibility of other adults in the case, including those who knew about the abuse and those who permitted or
given venues for such illicit activities to take place.
According to the authorities, there is no proof that any suspected acts took place on a school campus. McCommon admitted to miscommunicating with former students during the investigation, according to the police.
“It’s intolerable. It’s unimaginable and completely avoidable. According to Turner, who spoke to WREG, “I believe that’s why the detectives and I are so concerned about making sure victims are okay. McCammon’s lawyers, according to WREG-TV, have maintained that she is innocent.
Defense attorney Jere Mason said, “We believe that it’s bordering on a witch hunt on social media and that’s frustrating to us. “What we’re requesting is that the public exercise patience, let the legal system do its work, and refrain from further persecuting the alleged victims,” or the family of the defendant. McCommon was detained on a $25,000 bond after being accused of raping a kid. On October 13, she is expected to appear in court. The Tipton County Sheriff’s Office acknowledged that it was collaborating on the investigation with the Covington Police Department and that evidence was still being gathered. The sheriff’s office issued a statement that read, “Remember, although we work for the public and our citizens, our victims are a priority. “I can promise you that we are taking the investigation and the current procedure seriously.
