Dangote Refinery Applauds Tinubu, Security Chiefs for Swift Resolution of PENGASSAN Strike

The management of Dangote Refinery has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria’s security chiefs for their decisive intervention in ending the recent PENGASSAN (Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria) strike that briefly disrupted operations and fuel supply across the country.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Dangote Refinery expressed deep appreciation to the Federal Government for demonstrating leadership and commitment to ensuring stability in the nation’s energy sector. The company described the swift resolution of the industrial action as a clear reflection of President Tinubu’s proactive governance style and dedication to maintaining steady economic growth.

The refinery, Africa’s largest integrated petrochemical plant, noted that the brief strike by PENGASSAN had the potential to cause significant setbacks in fuel distribution and refinery output. However, with the timely intervention of the Presidency and national security agencies, dialogue was restored, and normal operations resumed without long-term disruptions.

“We commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the security chiefs for their swift and effective response to the industrial unrest. Their decisive actions helped to restore confidence and stability across the oil and gas sector,” the refinery’s management said.

Dangote Refinery further applauded the Ministry of Labour and Employment, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), and the leadership of PENGASSAN for their collaborative approach in resolving the disagreement amicably. The company emphasized that mutual understanding between industry players and labour unions remains crucial to sustaining Nigeria’s progress toward energy independence.

The statement added that continuous engagement between stakeholders would prevent future disruptions and promote a more harmonious working environment in the oil and gas value chain.

“Nigeria’s refinery sector is at a crucial stage of transformation, and industrial peace is vital for achieving the nation’s self-sufficiency goals in refined products. We urge all parties to keep dialogue channels open to foster trust and cooperation,” the statement added.

The PENGASSAN strike, which began earlier last week, was reportedly triggered by disputes related to welfare issues and safety concerns at some petroleum installations. The industrial action temporarily disrupted fuel logistics and raised fears of nationwide scarcity. However, following high-level meetings between the union leaders and government representatives, the strike was called off after assurances were given to address the workers’ grievances.

Industry analysts have praised the quick resolution, noting that prolonged industrial unrest could have affected the country’s refining output and the broader economy. With the Dangote Refinery playing a pivotal role in Nigeria’s push to end fuel importation, experts believe that maintaining peace and stability in the sector is essential for long-term growth.

As operations return to normal, Dangote Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to supporting national energy security and economic diversification under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Tinubu’s administration. The company reiterated its determination to continue producing high-quality petroleum products to meet domestic demand and contribute to Nigeria’s export potential.
