The Supreme Court has confirmed Ademola Adeleke as the governor of Osun State. Oyetola had asked the Supreme Court to reverse its order to reject the ruling of the electoral tribunal.
The supreme court’s five-member bench decided on Tuesday that Adeleke had been reinstated as governor by the court of appeal in the right manner.
Out of Senator Ademola Adeleke, the current governor of Osun State, and Isiaka Oyetola, the most recent governor, a five-judge Supreme Court panel chose who would be in charge of the state’s government.
A five-judge panel presided over by Justice John Okoro was appointed after the court approved all of the written documents submitted by the parties in the case.
Oyetola asked the Supreme Court to reverse its order to annul the ruling of the electoral tribunal. The electoral tribunal that examined the matter declared Oyetola, a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), to be the winner. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Adeleke the winner and the electoral tribunal had ultimately overturned that decision, but Oyetola filed a lawsuit to challenge the outcome. In addition to Oyetola’s appeal, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also filed a cross-appeal, which the Supreme Court decided on.
The cross-appeal contested a portion of the Court of Appeal’s decision, which was also overturned by the Supreme Court thereby upholding the decision of the Appeal Court Reinstating and declaring Adeleke the winner as the current governor of Osun State.
