The Commission informed the country earlier today that thugs had broken into our office in the Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State as we were compiling the results for the governorship and state assembly elections.
“The collated results from the Registration Areas for the Governorship election in the Local Government Area were the subject of discussion. It was intended to compel the compilation of these controversial findings. These criminals’ actions are abhorrent, and the outcomes will be carefully examined. He stated, “The Commission does not take the patience of the people for granted and will continue to take actions to defend the integrity of the vote and consolidate the gains made so far in the electoral process.
This decision by Inec came after thugs of PDP in Abia broke into the INEC in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State and forced election officials to alter the Abia Guber results. Politicians and their goons who tried to rig the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election in Abia State by taking its officials hostage have received a stern warning from the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC).
Festus Okoye, INEC’s National Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, warned that the organization would take “draconian measures” to thwart any attempts by thugs to coerce its officials into publicly announcing results that were dubious after being collected on Sunday from polling places throughout Obingwa Local Government Area in Abia State.
At a news conference held in the national situation room at the International Conference Centre in Abuja, Okoye stressed the need of upholding democracy at all costs.
